Midweek

We went over to the pet bookstore this morning. I love that ALL the books are $1.00.

I picked up 3 new cookbooks to peruse and maybe get some ideas. One is a Classic French cooking book. For $1.00 if I don’t like it I can just give it back. Plus it supports the Foothills SPCA.

Then, my van wouldn’t start the other day which was weird as it always starts. So we thought it was the battery and B went dutifully to go buy one to the tune of $157. ( that includes the fees). Well, it wasn’t the battery but I’m sure we needed one anyway. So he called and had AAA tow it 1/8 of a mile away to the garage in town here.  So, today, I stopped in to check and the mechanic and owner said the grounding wire had deteriorated so he fixed it. All is well in van land. Not that I use it that much but I still love it. And we do use it to haul hay and Ikea (ha ha) stuff.

Tomorrow is gym day and then some errands I need to run. No one will be here, so I’ll be on pet duty for the day. The doggies expect lunch promptly!!:)

I may venture out to the barn to view what I need to do.  I went out there the other day and it looked pretty good. B’s work samples are on one side and he needs these for work so that’s where they live. The middle area is where I need to just kinda re -organize. Most things have been decluttered once, twice, three, four times but there’s always room for improvement.  Until the temperatures start hitting 70 which is now, it’s too cold out there plus it’s dark. I mean there are lights but it’s much better if the doors are wide open. My plan is to start with bring out a vinegar water solution and at least wipe the bins down and then look at a little better system of organization.  Last year, I must have given away 4 bins of magazines so I’m not sure there is more to get rid of right now. I’d still like to only have 2 bins of the best but that’s still aways off.

Dinner is a stir-fry with leftover chicken from last night.

A lovely day

I had a good gym workout and then headed into Safeway for a few things. Well, $90 later, I did get extra stuff. The usual, cat food, milk, some sliced turkey and on and on. It’s okay, I needed a few expensive things like mouthwash, and Polident for my Invisalign. Okay, I confess, I bought a little plant and some votive candles too.

The rain is coming in and it should be heavy at times. But we do need it. There’s also snow for the Sierras.

Tonight I’m making some sourdough pancakes and scrambled eggs. Usually, it’s Crockpot Thursday, but I’m just going wild here with pancakes.

Chrusciki and Le Creuset

IMG_1142.jpg Here’s a picture of our traditional ‘Chrusciki’. It’s a polish/European fried dough. It’s not very sweet except for the powdered sugar. My mother made these at Christmas. One of my few memories.

IMG_1148.jpg My fancy new pot. I love Le Creuset and they do last a lifetime or two. As I mentioned my other two are over 30 years old.  I got this great deal where it was on sale and then got another 20% off so still expensive but under $300.

I’ve got all the Christmas stuff down except one swag I’m leaving up for a while because I like the twinkly lights in it.

I’m going to the gym today but no leg work as I must have pulled a muscle behind my knee on Sunday. I’m not sure what really happened but my knee was pretty flipped out the other day and I even only walked one round. Even when I am sick, I try and do 2 rounds so you can tell my knee was hurting.

It’s pizza night but I’m deviating(oh the horror), and making baked ravioli. I have some that need to be used so I’ll make them. Since my daughter is not eating gluten right now, I’ll make something else for her when she gets home from work. She doesn’t get in till 7pm so I whip something easy.

The Sun!!

It’s amazing. The sun is out. Of course, it’s still pretty cold out there but at least it’s sunny. It should be sunny for at least a few days.

Today, I’m still not going to the gym. I don’t want to be ‘that’ person everyone is staring at because I sound like I have TB. So I’ll wait another day. I waited this long to join the gym I can be sick and not push myself.

My daughter is off to work and the freeway is clear( I hope). My son starts his spring semester today so he’ll be off soon. I’m taking a huge load to the food bank and then come home and work on some laundry. I need to get coffee but I think I’ll just make a small pot tomorrow as I’m going to Costco. Buying a pound at Starbucks is @ $13 and at Costco, it’s 2 1/2 lbs for $18. So I’ll wait.

I’ve gathered up the tax stuff and it’s pretty straightforward this year. Last year I bought the online version of Turbo tax instead of the physical and I liked it better so I’ll do that again.

We’re lucky we didn’t lose a chicken last night as one was outside the enclosed at night coup. There were feathers all over so I’m guessing something tried to get it but it got away, at least I think I counted 11 chickens. I’ll do another head ( beak count) later. when it’s rainy and dark it’s hard to tell if everyone is in.

Tonight is taco Tuesday.  I was thinking of making some beef enchiladas but I’ll see how ambitious I feel later.
