The middle of the week.

I -80 still had westbound traffic closed last night so my daughter spent the night in Truckee. The mudslide was still unstable so they were detouring cars to Nevada City. The night before it took her 4 hours to get home. So, fortunately, Dad has points at Best Western, so she stayed for free.   The doggies missed her. And her cat Ollie.

It’s cloudy again and the rain is supposed to move in tonight. Ugh, I’m sick of the rain.

Walking has been nice without rain gear and an umbrella. Sunrise is getting earlier and earlier. Today it was 6:56 am. We are getting to the park earlier too and it’s light. We haven’t walked in the dark in a few weeks.

We had a nice homemade Valentines dinner a la Julia Child. I made JC’s crepes and did a florentine filling with spinach, mushrooms, and goat cheese/ cream cheese filling topped with a cheese sauce. Then I made an old fashioned chocolate cookie wafer refrigerator cake. (Basically, cookies and whipped cream).  Nice. Actually, we’re having the leftovers IMG_0506.jpgtonight so I’m not cooking.img_0509-1img_0508-5

I forgot to take the put together picture but you put the mixture in the crepe and roll up. Then like enchiladas add the sauce on top. The mixture looks fairly wet but it wasn’t.

I thought of going to town and doing some errands but in the end just stayed home.

Rain….Snow…Rain….

Okay, not very exciting. Raining, Raining, Snowing, Raining. I guess it’ll stop someday. Or is this another flood meant to sweep us away so we can start fresh without Trump as President. ( oh sorry) … Well, it is a thought.

So even my daughter who drives in the snow a lot can’t get to work as I-80 is a snowmageddon. It looks like she won’t make it tomorrow as it’s worse. I think this is only the 2nd time she hasn’t been able to drive up to Truckee.

I’m going out to the gym as we only walked a mile in the pouring freezing rain till I said,”ok, that’s it”.  So I’m going to add some mileage on at the gym.  WE’ve had 2 no spend days, easy when you’re just home. Today is a few groceries. Tomorrow, no spend. So hopefully it’ll make us more aware of our spending habits.

Dinner Tamales and Mexican rice and some leftover Chicken tortilla soup. Not exactly tacos but Mexican at least.

Tahoe! Rain, and lab results!!

Well, we’re home and had a very nice time in Tahoe. It’s amazing how the drought has affected tahoe. It is the lowest I’ve ever seen. I do hope El Niño brings us much needed rain. We spent too much on food. I had planned breakfast at the condo but we ate out. Ouch! How much can breakfast be for 4 adults. . . Too much.  But the place is great. And we walked in the morning although not super early. Even today we weren’t out till 6:30. Pretty late .

But the exciting news is it rained last night so every thing is nice and wet. Yeah!! My sister leaves tomorrow. Tonight we’re having spaghetti . Next week will be eat out of the freezer and I’m not planning on taking grocery money till I really need it.

I did get back my labs and  nothing great but nothing went up. M protein went down a tenth .8 ok, not great. My kappa light chains went down to 930 from 1140 so 200 points. So I’m grateful but it did that before and then the next cycle went back up. I think I want big results and I need to be ok with stable. I see him next week and I’m sure he’ll say stable, we will do another cycle. Someone posted on the myeloma Beacon about doing pomalyst with krypolis and getting great results. I don’t think he’ll do that. But I’m reassured that at least things are stable. I guess we all want big results and m proteins at .0 and kappa light chains in the normal range but alas it isn’t always so.

today, I need to do some serious Flylady and then after Heidi leaves declutter and clean.

This week and RAIN!!

Here in northern california we’ve had some really awful fires in the Napa area. Over 400 homes have burned and many displaced families pets, horses, wildlife . Our air had been very smokey. But great news, this afternoon the weather has change. Cooler and we actually got rain. What a blessing.

In other news, tomorrow , I get another CBC panel to see what my neutrophils are. But the update isn’t good. At least in my opinion. My m spike remained at .9 , so that was good. But still on 4 mg of Pom , I hoped to get a response. And my light chains went from 890 to 1040. He wants to do another cycle, so I will, but honestly, I think Pomalyst really isn’t going to work for me. I’m not looking forward to the next line of treatment but , that’s what’s in store. I’d be pretty shocked if Pom drops my numbers this cycle.

So, we went to Ikea yesterday. Always really a fun place to look at all the arrangements they make and neat things. We got the doors for the Pax closet we bought years ago and well, never finished. And some curtains for my daughters redone room. If you need curtains at a totally reasonable price, IKEA is the place. Both pairs with 2 curtains were 29 each. That’s a great price.

Tomorrow, I’m dropping off a huge load to goodwill and then some items to the Cancer thrift store that are too nice for goodwill. One is a brand new spiralizer ,used a few times, and the other a brand new mandolin for vegies. After I cut my self on the mandoline, I decided it wasn’t the kinda kitchen tool I wanted to keep.

I can use a knife or a veggie peeler to make ribbons. ( which I don’t really do. )

It was Rosh Hoshannah yesterday at sundown. This is the Jewish new year. Of course we’re not Jewish but for some reason I like the Jewish holidays a lot. So L’Shanah Tovah!!! Happy new year.

I like to think this is the beginning of a new and healthy year. We shall see.

Made it thru the storm, Costco ….

The wind was howling and the rain was impressive, almost 5 inches). But we got home around 1pm on Thursday. No wind just lots of rain. There were branches in the yard and tons of pine needles but no other damages. A few tiny roof leaks where it always leaks when it’s torrential, so I think we missed that one. SF got incredible wind and rain.

It’s still gloomy out and quite a bit colder.

I got and message back from my doctor and I started rev, and I’ll see him the first part of January, as it doesn’t make sense to see him mid cycle.
My m protein came back .4 so same as last month. My neutrophils were good too.

I’m done with christmas except some cash for my brother. We have definitely gone over budget. So next year I’ve got to up our santa fund.

Work was quiet and Saturday was a little busier. This is a slow time in the library, too much christmas going on.

My sons wisdom teeth surgery is this week and I’m sure I’ll be a nervous wreck.

We were looking at a new tv at Costco but I don’t think we can do it, since the copay for the wisdom teeth is @$700. So….
But as usual Costco sucked the money right out of you, but I won’t have to back till middle to end of January.

All in all a good day.
Dinner is potato leek soup.

Simplifying , decluttering, rain and more!.

“Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful.”

– William Morris

I’ve been back in the simplifying mode. I have a huge load to go to the little thrift store in town, but it’s been raining so much ,I haven’t been able to drop off. I read a blog about decluttering and I like his approach of everything needs a home. Pretty much the same as everything in its place and a place for everything. But , I like this little adaptation, that everything has a home or out it goes. I’m looking around and see a few more things to go.

With Christmas decorations up , it’s more visually cluttered, but I love our little bird tree, our snoopy tree, our big tree, and the ugly ornament tree. Yes, that’s a lot but we do enjoy them. My daughter and I did get rid of quite a few ornaments and quite a few of the hallmark boxes for ornaments that were not in the best shape. It takes up less space to wrap them in bubble wrap. I’m hoping to get everything in one plastic bin. That down from 4. It might end up I big bin and a small bin. I have 2 fake trees to give away too. So all in all lots of stuff going. My daughter does a great job purging, my son, not so much, his room is still a disaster zone. But I close the door, it is his space, so I respect that. Oh, I do go in and empty the burgeoning garbage pail.

RAIN,OMG, it was torrential. Our our got almost 4 inches of rain and there was flooding all over. Our driveway looked like a river. I get a little concerned with the ground being so saturated as that’s a way trees fall. But we need the rain in California ,so….

Saw the foot doctor too. It’s spurs on top of my foot. Surgery or ? She was little odd, not very revealing. She said I had a small mass under my ball of my foot from the bone trying to protect itself. She tried to drain it but when nothing happened, she said ,I guess it’s bursitis thing.( not sure if that’s what she said). Anyway I got a cortisone shot, and she wasn’t sure if that would help. She also said my feet don’t land right and I could benefit from orthopedic things to put in shoes, to the tune of $450. I said , let’s do it. She thought the reason the spurs happened is because of this. I’m going to try that, and give it 6 months. Then I’ll reconsider the bone shaving surgery ( yuck!).

I’m off to the library this morning.

maybe I’ll do a little more holiday decorating , if there’s any left to do.

Also, someone suggested to put the friends for sale books in alphabetical order. Good idea.

Not sure what’s on the dinner menu, but probably pasta with spinach as have a lot to use.

Rain and a good doctor appt

We walked in the rain with our Froggs. If you need rain gear Froggs is terrific and not too expensive. It’s both a light jacket and pants you put on over your sweats.
I love walking in the rain as long as it’s not freezing and windy.

We are on day 533, I think.:)

So my doctor appt was good. It’s so nice to get my labs on line before so then I don’t obsess about it. My m protein is at .4 up from .3
My neutrophils are a little low, but that was 2 1/2 weeks ago so they probably rebounded some.
I’m going back on the 16 mg of dex and well see it that brings it a little down. Overall I feel good. I started rev last night and really zonked out. I forgot that rev makes you sleep deeper. I actually forgot my thyroid pill till later than usual. Since I always wake up at 2-3 am I take it but last night I slept right thru it till before getting up. Weird.

He didn’t think too much about my foot( toe ) numbness except it’s probably arthritis. Still it hurts, or numbish.

Not much else, but I’ll get zometa in December. I want to finish the year done with that.
Then we went to Winco, and then had a little lunch at one of our favorite places. It was a nice morning.
I’m off today, and then back to the library tomorrow.
